McNeese
State's Cowboys will be after their second straight basketball victory Monday,
tackling Samford University on the road.
The
Cowboys (1-3) are coming off a win over Louisiana College after having dropped
three games in the Hawaii Rainbow Classic.
Samford
is winless in four games this
season but have lost three of the contests by three or less points. The Bulldogs have bowed to Kent State
69-66, to Wisconsin-Green Bay 70-68 and to UAB 55-52. In their last outing they dropped a 68-49 decision to Texas
A&M.
The
game can be listened to locally over radio station 1470-AM.
The
Cowboys are expected to start the same lineup that opened the Louisiana College
game on Saturday. Stephan Martin
will start at the point with Diego Kapelan at the other guard, Patrick Richard
and P. J. Alawoya at forward and Preston David at center.
Martin
is averaging 14.3 points per game with a season and career single game high of
23 which he scored against Northern Colorado.
Also
scoring in double figures are Diego Kapelan at 11.8 and Patrick Richard at
11.3. Alawoya leads in rebounds
with a 7.3 game average.
McNeese,
which did not shoot a free throw in its loss to Hawaii, is making 76.4 percent
of its free throws this season, 42 of 55.
It's
in the rebound column where the Cowboys are taking a hit, being outrebounded an
average of six per game.
Following
this game the Cowboys will return home to host UL-Lafayette on Saturday. The starting time for that game has
been moved to 7 p.m. at Burton Coliseum.
