McNeese
State's Cowboys will play a 15 game home basketball schedule in the 2010-2011
season and will go on the road to play such teams as Washington, Miami,
Southern Miss, LSU and Texas A&M.
"We've
really got a good home schedule," said Cowboy head coach Dave Simmons in
announcing the slate, "with non-conference games against Georgia State,
UL-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech and Sacramento State as well as with our regular
conference opponents.
"And,
we do have a tough road schedule," he noted.
The
Cowboys will open their season against Washington in Seattle on Nov. 13 and
will open their home campaign on Nov. 16 against Georgia State.
McNeese
will play at Southern Miss on Nov. 22, Miami on Nov. 24, at LSU on Dec. 16 and
at Texas A&M on Dec. 31.
The
outing against Washington will be the second between the two schools while
McNeese will be playing Southern Miss for the 20th time, Miami for
the first time, LSU for the 19th time and Texas A&M for the
fifth time. The Cowboys are 1-0
against Washington (a 96-92 victory in Seattle in the 1985-86 season), 7-12
against Southern Miss, 0-18 against LSU and 1-3 against Texas A&M.
Besides
the outings with Georgia State, ULL (Dec. 1), Louisiana Tech (Dec. 11) and
Sacramento State (Dec. 19), McNeese will also host non-conference opponents
Louisiana College on Nov. 20, Jarvis Christian Dec. 9, Southwest Assemblies of
God on Dec. 13 and University of the Southwest (out of Hobbs, NM) on Dec. 21.
McNeese
will kick off Southland Conference action on Jan. 8 at home against TAM-Corpus
Christi. Other league games at
home will be against Texas State (Jan. 15), Sam Houston State (Feb. 2), Central Arkansas (Feb. 12),
Northwestern State (Feb. 19), Nicholls State (Feb. 26), Southeastern Louisiana
(Mar. 2) and Lamar (Mar. 5).
The
Cowboys will play five doubleheaders at home this year, the Cowgirls playing
the early game each day on Nov. 20, Dec. 21, Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 5. Also, the Cowboys will play in five
doubleheaders on the road, all conference outings.
McNeese
has 11 lettermen returning this year including last year starters Patrick
Richard, P. J. Alawoya, Diego Kapelan, C. J. Collins and Will Morning. Other lettermen back are Dontae Cannon,
Jeremie Mitchell, Brandon Regis, Daniel Richard, Preston David and Stephan
Martin. New to the team will be
redshirt Adrian Fields and junior college transfer Mari Kontae.
The
Cowboys posted a 10-20 overall record a year ago and finished 5-11 in league
play.
