LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese State's women's tennis team defeated Alcorn State 6-1 in their season opener here Friday.

The Cowgirls took a 1-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches. The Cowgirls' no. 1 doubles team of Ralista Pirdopska and Victoria Martinez defeated Adriele Buchman and Katherine Hoepelman 8-4. McNeese's Petra Gudelj and Maria Frausto defeated Kalinina Sandoval and Nancy Gonzales 8-0 in the no. 2 doubles and Kwynn Biggs and Ilona Serchenko defeated Alcorn's Claudia Gonzales and Dasia Rud 8-2 at the no. 3 doubles.

The Cowgirls continued their dominance in singles play by winning five of six matches. Pirdopska, Serchenko, Martinez, Frausto and Biggs were all winners in their respective singles match with straight set victories.

Gudelj dropped her no. 4 singles match in a tie-breaker to Hoepelman 6-3, 3-6, 5-10.

The Cowgirls will travel to New Orleans Saturday and Sunday for matches at Loyola and Xavier. McNeese will face Loyola Saturday at 11 a.m. and Xavier Sunday, this match also has a 11 a.m. start.
