SPRINGFIELD - Corey Halsell and Derek Bonvillain were the only Cowboys to break 80 on the final day of the Southeastern Louisiana Carter Plantation golf tournament as McNeese State finished 12th in the 13 team field.
Halsell shot a 76 to finish at 227 and lead the team with a 40th place tie. Bonvillain shot 75 and he was at 233 but finished in a tie for 54th. In between the two was Austin Snell who had been the team leader after 36 holes but he shot 81 on Tuesday and finished at 228 and in a tie for 44th place.
As a team the Cowboys posted a 926 total with rounds of 306-307-313. Louisiana-Lafayette came from behind to take the team title with a 290, nipping 36 hole leader Rice by a shot. Two shots back at 872 were Central Arkansas and UNO while UT Arlinton was at 875.
Other team scoring had host Southeastern Louisiana at 884, Sam Houston State and Arkansas State at 892, Jacksonville State 898, SFA 903, UL Monroe 906, McNeese 926 and Nicholls State 936.
UTA's Zack Fischer took the individual crown by two shots as he posted a five under par 67 on Tuesday for a seven under 209. Ken Looper of UNO and Andrew Noto of UL-Lafayette tied for second at 211.
Other scoring for McNeese had Ben Suarez shooting 81 on Tuesday for a 238 and a tie for 62nd and David Wiggins posting an 85 for a 250 and 74th place.
The appearance in the Southeastern Louisiana hosted event concluded McNeese's fall golf season.
