With only three weeks left in the race for the Southland Conference football title, four teams are tied at the top spot with 3-1 league records and McNeese State is one of the three.
The Cowboys picked up their third win in a row last Saturday, beating Nicholls State by a 38-17 score. At the same time, Texas State upset Stephen F. Austin and Southeastern Louisiana beat Central Arkansas.
Now tied for the top spot are McNeese, Texas State, SFA and Southeastern Louisiana. Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas are next in line at 2-2 while both Nicholls State and Northwestern State are 0-4.
Action this weekend calls for the Cowboys to host Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana to play at Northwestern State, Texas State at Central Arkansas and Nicholls State at SFA.
The following weekend (Nov. 14) the Cowboys will travel to play Texas State while Northwestern State will be at Nicholls, Central Arkansas at Sam Houston State and SFA at Southeastern Louisiana.
In the final regular season weekend of action (Nov. 21), Nicholls and Southeastern will play on a Thursday while Saturday games will have McNeese hosting Central Arkansas, SFA play at Northwestern State and Sam Houston at Texas State.
FCS playoffs will being on Nov. 28.
COWBOY PLAYERS OF THE GAME: Linebacker Matt Kreamer and wide receiver Immanuel Friddle were named McNeese State's players of the game in the team's 38-17 win over Nicholls. Kreamer, a senior from Shreveport and Evangel High, led the team in tackles with 10 and also forced a fumble. Friddle, a senior from Iowa, was tops on the team in receiving with four catches for 60 yards.
