McNeese moves up a notch in the national poll

Lake Charles, LA - McNeese State's Cowboys, currently tied for first place in the Southland Conference standings, moved up a slot in the Sports Network poll this week to No. 12.

The Cowboys, now 6-2 on the season and 3-1 in league play, are only one point behind No. 11 ranked Northern Iowa.

Richmond continues to lead the poll and is followed by Montana, Southern Illinois, Villanova, William & Mary, Elon, Appalachian State, New Hampshire, South Dakota State and South Carolina State.

Stephen F. Austin, which is now 6-2, dropped to 15 after its loss to Texas State while Central Arkansas slipped to No. 20 after being beaten by Southeastern Louisiana.

Southeastern Louisiana and Texas State both received votes, the Lions getting 139 for 30th place and the Bobcats 107 for 32nd.

COWBOY PLAYERS OF THE GAME:  Linebacker Matt Kreamer and wide receiver Immanuel Friddle were named McNeese State's players of the game in the team's 38-17 win over Nicholls.  Kreamer, a senior from Shreveport and Evangel High, led the team in tackles with 10 and also forced a fumble.  Friddle, a senior from Iowa, was tops on the team in receiving with four catches for 60 yards.

DERRICK FOURROUX AND THE RECORD BOOK -  McNeese State senior quarterback Derrick Fourroux is working on quite a record.  He's getting close to breaking almost all of the school records currently held by former standout Kerry Joseph (now a star in the Canadian Football League).  Heading into this week's game Fourroux has 9,367 total offensive yards (record is 9,676), he has 7,539 yards passing (record is 7,874), he has completed 558 (record is 565) of 939 (record is 1114) passes, he has passed for 62 touchdowns (record is 67) and he has accounted for 88 touchdowns running and passing (record is 90).  Also, Fourroux has rushed for 1,768 yards on 444 carries and the career rushing record for quarterbacks at McNeese is 1,906 yards on 551 carries set by Stephen Starring during his career.

NCAA RANKINGS

(Individual)

  • tailback Toddrick Pendland has dropped to No. 28 in rushing but continues to rank among the top three in scoring....after seeing only brief action in last Saturday's game, Pendland is now No. 28 in the nation in rushing with a 84.29 yards per game average....he is No. 3 in scoring with a 10.0 average per game and he is 45th in all-purpose running with a 115.86 average per game...Pendland only played the first quarter in last week's game, scoring twice and rushing for 24 yards
  • quarterback Derrick Fourroux is No. 12 in pass efficiency (153.20) and is No. 14 in total offense (273.0 ypg)
  • Champlain Babin is ranked No. 15 in punt returns with a 11.3 average; he is also 62nd in kickoff returns with 22.23 average
  • Javaris Murray is ranked No. 63 in kickoff returns with a 22.21 average

  • as a team the Cowboys rank among the top 10 in: rushing offense (No. 10, 203.13 ypg), total offense (No. 7, 438.38 avg), scoring offense (No. 4, 36.63 ppg) and passing efficiency (No. 8, 154.07)

  • Toddrick Pendland is 1st in rushing (84.3 ypg), 1st in scoring (10.0 ppg) and 3rd in all-purpose running (115.86 ypg)
  • QB Derrick Fourroux is 2nd in passing efficiency (153.2), 4th in total offense (273.0 ypg) and 10th in rushing (49.2 ypg)
  • Champlain Babin is 1st in punt returns (11.33 yp return)
  • Seth Thomas is tied for the lead in pass interceptions with three
  • Desmund Lighten is tied for first in fumbles recovered with three

  • as a team the Cowboys lead the conference in rushing offense (203.1 ypg) and pass defense (giving up 172.0 ypg)f, first downs (23.2 average per game), third down conversions (46.7 pct) and fourth down converesions (71.4 pct)

COWBOY TIGHT ENDS

Wes Mangan and Corday Clark have accounted for eight of the 18 touchdowns passing that McNeese has scored this year....both have caught four touchdown passes...Mangan now has a career total of 12 and he also now has 59 career receptions which ranks fourth high on the McNeese chart for tight ends.....Chris Fontenot holds the all-time record of 99...second is James Moore with 76 and third is R. C. Slocum (the former Texas A&M coach) with 74

....as for tds passes caught by tight ends, Mangan is now tops for tight ends at McNeese with his 12 and is ranked sixth among all receivers ....former wide receiver Terence Davis holds the record of 21 while Damien Morris caught 18 touchdown passes, Adam Henry and B. J. Sams 16 each and Quinten Lawrence 15....Britt Brodhead also caught 12 touchdown passes during his career

....with 59 receptions and 12 touchdowns, Mangan is averaging a touchdown for every 4.9 catches
