SPRINGFIELD - Sophomore Austin Snell was the
lead performer for McNeese State during the opening day of the Southeastern
Louisiana Carter Plantation intercollegiate golf tournament on Monday.
The Cowboy golfer posted a 36 hole total of 147
with rounds of 72 and 75 and he was tied for 21st place heading into
Tuesday's final 18 holes.
As a team, McNeese shot 306 and 307 for a 613
which put the Cowboys in 12th place out of 13 teams.
Rice University was tops at 579 and that was
one shot in front of UL-Lafayette and UNO. Central Arkansas was next at 582 followed by host
Southeastern at 586, UTA 587, Arkansas State 590, Jacksonville State 594, Sam
Houston State 595, ULM and SFA 606, McNeese and Nicholls State 625.
Snell, a native of Mont Belvieu, TX, was making
only his second start of the fall for the Cowboys. He was the only McNeese player among the top 30 players.
Corey
Halsell was next for McNeese and was tied for 38th at 77-74-151
while Ben Suarez shot 78-79---157 for 60th place, Derek Bonvillain
had 79-79-158 for a tie for 61st and David Wiggins shot 83-82-165 for
73rd place.
Andrew Noto of UL-Lafayette was the individual
leader with a four under par 140 (71-69) while Steven Lecuyer of Central
Arkansas was second at 141 (69-72).
