FRISCO, Tx.-- McNeese State's women's soccer team landed three players on the 2009 All-Southland Conference Team which was announced by the league office today.
Junior midfielder Alana Clark has been named to the second team and freshman Megan Rogers and senior Erin Leighton were honorable mention selections.
A native of Tucson, Arizona, Clark currently leads the team with nine goals and 69 shots. Clark also leads the team with 21 points and ranks second in the SLC in that category. Clark also ranks third in shots per game, tied for sixth in goals, ninth in goals per game and tied for eighth in points in the SLC.
Rogers, a midfielder who hails from Highland Village, Texas, led the Cowgirls with 11 assists in her rookie season and is second on the team with 11 points. Rogers is tied for eighth in the SLC in assists and assists per game.
Leighton, a defender from The Woodlands, Texas, was the Cowgirls' last line of defense and played a major part in McNeese's six shutout victories. Leighton attempted four shots this season and broke the Cowgirls' career games played record at 77 and has currently played in 78 consecutive games in her career.
Clark and Leighton were both preseason picks and both will be in the starting lineup when the sixth seed Cowgirls face third seed Stephen F. Austin at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the opening game of the Southland Conference Tournament in Natchitoches.
