LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese State's
Diego Kapelan led all players with 12 points in McNeese's 73-36 win over Louisiana College
here Saturday. Kapelan was one of three
Cowboys who scored in double figures.
Patrick Richard scored 11 and Dontae Cannon pitched in 10. Kapelan was 5 of 9 from the field including
two three-pointers.
McNeese held a
36-20 halftime lead and held a double figure lead for most of the game. The Cowboys started the second half with a
12-0 run to increase its lead to 30 points with 11:44 left in the game.
"We played well
when we needed to today. Our freshmen
are going to help us down the road," said head coach Dave Simmons.
The Cowboys ended
the game shooting 51.8 percent from the field and 75.0 percent from the free
throw line. McNeese connected on 29 of
56 shots from the field and made nine of 12 free throws. P.J. Alawoya led the Cowboys with nine
rebounds.
Louisiana College
was led in scoring by Jarrod Jackson with 12 points. Sean Johnson led the Wildcats with five
rebounds.
McNeese took the
lead from the tip and never looked back as the Cowboys held a double digit lead
five minutes into the game and never looked back. A layup by Preston David gave the Cowboys a
12-2 lead with fifteen minutes left in the first half.
McNeese (1-3)
will travel to Samford Monday, Nov. 23 for a 7 p.m. contest.
