LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese State's women's basketball team will step away from its usual game at Burton Coliseum or the Lake Charles Civic Center Saturday when they host Texas State at Jennings High School, the alma mater of head coach Brooks Donald Williams. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
Saturday's game will be the second McNeese women's game played at Jennings High. The Cowgirls fell 85-79 to Central Arkansas during the 2007-08 season, Williams' first year as head coach.
The Cowgirls (5-15, 1-6 SLC) will attempt to snap a losing streak in games played at Jennings High and a current two game losing streak after its 65-52 home loss to Northwestern State Wednesday.
Senior Kiara Johnson continues to lead the Cowgirls in scoring with 14.3 ppg. and ranks second in the league with a 49.6 field goal percent.
Sophomore Kendra Wells leads the team with 7.1 rpg., 2.4 assists, 2.0 steals and is second on the team in scoring with a 12.9 average. Wells is coming off her eighth career double-double against NW State with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Sophomore Candace LaCome, a native of Iota is also averaging 10.0 ppg. and leads the Cowgirls with an 83.3 free throw percent.
Texas State (5-14, 1-7 SLC) picked up its first SLC victory of the season with a 53-44 home win over Southeastern La. Wednesday. The Bobcats are led in scoring by Kelsey Krupa (9.2 ppg.) and Chika Ofoegbu is the team leader with 5.7 rpg.
The Bobcats lead the all-time series 29-21 and have won the last three meetings including a 62-48 win in San Marcos, Tx. last year. The last McNeese victory over Texas State came during the 2005-06 season when McNeese picked up a 71-67 win in Lake Charles.
