McNeese State rang up its third straight baseball victory here Sunday afternoon, posting a 6-2 victory over Houston Baptist as catcher Taylor Freeman continued his torrid hitting start and Josh Cholley got into the action.

Righthander Jonathan Conrad opened the game on the mound for the Cowboys and picked up the victory while Freeman went two for three at the plate, giving him nine hits in his first 11 times at bat this season.

Batting from the ninth position, Cholley went three for three and knocked in three runs.

The Cowboys collected 13 hits in the game and Conrad hurled seven innings of three hit, no run ball.

The only runs posted by Houston Baptist came in the top of the ninth when Beau Warren belted a two run homer off reliefer Travis Bailey.

Now 3-0 on the year, the Cowboys will be back in action on Tuesday and Wednesday when they host Arkansas-Little Rock in a pair of games.

Conrad, making his season debut, struckout five batters and walked one during his seven inning stint.  He gave up a pair of doubles and a single, all of them scattered.

McNeese scored single runs in the first, third, fifth and eighth innings and plated two in the fourth.

The Cowboys run in the first inning came with Freeman doubling in Steven Irvine who had singled.  In the third, Josh Cholley, who had a three for three afternoon, scored on a single by Sam Merrill and in the fourth inning Cholley knocked in Nick Eubanks and Ryan Brauninger with a single.

McNeese’s run in the fifth came with Lee Orr doubling in Freeman and in the eighth Cholley plated Brauninger with a double.

Cholley’s three hits and three RBIs led the Cowboys while Freeman and Eubanks both had two hits.

Bailey relieved Conrad in the eighth and hurled two innings of two hit, two run ball.

No Houston Baptist player had more than one hit.

Cowboy head coach Terry Burrows said that he was pleased with the way his team played during the series.

“We hit the ball, our pitching was very effective and we played well in the field.  I was very pleased,” he said.
