McNeese State scored the game’s first five runs but then UT San Antonio went on a 22 hit rampage and produced a 20-6, 10 run rule victory in baseball action here Saturday.

It was the second straight triumph for the Roadrunners, who hit four home runs in the game, over the Cowboys.  They will play the third and final game of their Southland Conference series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The loss eliminated McNeese from SLC post season tournament consideration.  The Cowboys’ league record fell to 9-20 and with only three games remaining they have no chance to overtake eighth place Stephen F. Austin.  The tournament only takes the top eight teams in the standings.

Overall the Cowboys are now 20-28 and have only a three game series remaining, scheduled to play on the road against Nicholls State next weekend.

UTSA, which has qualified for the tournament, had its record go to 28-21 overall and to 17-12 in league play.

McNeese had scored single runs in the first and fourth innings and three in the third to hold a 5-0 lead heading into the fifth inning.  In that frame, the Roadrunners touched Cowboy starter and loser Matt Click first for a walk and then for five straight hits.

They went on to score 10 runs on eight hits in that inning.

UTSA also scored four runs in the sixth and six in the seventh when Jose Hernandez, Brett Aguilar and Ryan Hutson homered.

McNeese had two home runs of its own in the game with Nick Eubanks getting a two run shot in the third inning  and Andy Riche’ producing a solo shot in the fourth.

The loss left Cick with a 2-3 record.  Kris Ruepke, who started and went five innings for UTSA, got the win, setting his record at 2-5.

McNeese had 12 hits in the game with Steven Irvine getting three and Ryan Brauninger and Eubanks two each.  Jace Peterson had one hit and two RBIs.

Jason Mohn and Hutson led UTSA with four hits each while Aguilar had five RBIs and Lance Brown had four.
