LAKE CHARLES, LA -- McNeese State's volleyball team dropped a thrilling five set Southland Conference match to Nicholls here tonight 25-21, 25-27, 25-22, 20-25, 11-15.
Senior Chanel Tyler, who will be one of three seniors recognized prior to Saturday's 2 p.m. match against Southeastern La., led the Cowgirls with 16 kills and tied for a team high 18 digs. Sophomore Erin Huckabay tied her career high with 15 kills and was the only other Cowgirl to record double figure kills.
Senior setter Sarah Cartie tied her season high with 48 assists and also had 12 digs. Also recording double figure digs was Whitney Ellisor and Becky Bekelja with 18 apiece. Nicole Bowden led all players with a match high seven blocks. Deanna Sanchez is the other senior who will be honored Saturday. Sanchez picked up one kill, one service ace and eight digs tonight.
Nicholls State's Manieka Golden led all players with a match high 26 kills while Danielle Daigle recorded a match high 25 digs and setter Amy Whitehead dished out a match high 64 assists.
McNeese (17-12, 5-10 SLC) enters Saturday's regular season finale in eighth place, the final seed for next week's Southland Conference Tournament. Southeastern La. is right behind the Cowgirls in ninth place with a 8-18 overall record and 4-11 in the Southland Conference. McNeese defeated the Lions in four sets in Hammond on Oct. 8.
