FRIDAY'S PRACTICE PHOTO GALLERY
LAKE CHARLES – McNeese will stage its first scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday evening beginning at 6 p.m. in Cowboy Stadium.
Â
The event is free and open to the public.
Â
Head coach
Matt Viator is expecting to get in about 100 plays while working on different scenarios.
Â
"We're going to throw a lot," said Viator. "I think scrimmages are good for that. You can simulate run games and inside drill and all that but it's hard to simulate a true passing game and a true rush.
Â
"We have a bunch of things we need to get on film. We have our offense in. Everything will get run. Whether it works against the defense or it doesn't, but we have to get it on tape and get it evaluated."
Â
The scrimmage will be offense versus defense format and will involve different scenarios including special teams and red zone work.
Â
"Everybody is going to play," said Viator. "We want to try to get as many guys as we can in. We'll try to work a lot of 2s with 1s. Just try to get as many guys a chance as we can to play with the different groups.

On Friday, the Cowboys wrapped up their ninth practice of fall camp while working out in shells (helmets, shoulder pads and shorts).
Â
Quarterback
Daniel Sams fired off a couple of nice pass completions to sophomore receiver
Kent Shelby during team drills, while on defense,
Andre Fuller came up with an interception that likely would've been returned for a score had it not been blown dead.
Â
After Saturday's scrimmage, the Cowboys will take part in media day on Sunday afternoon from 5-6 in Cowboy Stadium then will hit the practice field again Monday at 4:30.
Â
McNeese will hold its second scrimmage of the preseason on August 22 at 9:45 a.m. The Cowboys will open the season on Sept. 5 at LSU.
