LAKE CHARLES – McNeese redshirt freshman kicker Trent Manuel has been named this week's Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in last Saturday's 43-6 win over Incarnate Word the league office released on Monday.
 
In making his collegiate debut, Manuel, a native of Orange, Texas, connected on all four of his extra point attempts and hit two of three field goals, making from distances of 20 and 22 yards.
 
Also on Monday, the Cowboys (1-0) jumped two spots to No. 21 in this week's FCS Coaches' poll while being the first team listed receiving votes in the STATS Top 25.
 
Coastal Carolina continues to top the coaches' poll for the second consecutive week while Jacksonville State, who nearly stunned Auburn before falling in overtime, jumped five spots to the No. 1 slot in the STATS poll.
 
Southland Conference member Sam Houston State dropped from No. 1 to 3 in the STATS poll and is No. 5 in the coaches while Southeastern Louisiana moved up one spot to No. 17 in the coaches' poll and remained at No. 20 in the STATS rankings.
 
Stephen F. Austin, this week's McNeese opponent, received votes in the STATS poll.
 
The Cowboys and Lumberjacks will kickoff at 6 p.m. on Saturday in Nacogdoches. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
