LAKE CHARLES - McNeese Cowgirls pole vaulter Nicole Casper broke her own record for the second consecutive week when she cleared 13-feet, 7 ¼-inches to finish in second place at the LSU Bayou Bengal Indoor Invitational on Friday afternoon.

She bettered her previous record by two inches that she cleared at last week's McNeese Indoor II meet and has moved up five spots in the national rankings to No. 14 in the NCAA.

Casper, a senior from Buna, Texas, cleared the bar on her first try then raised it to 13-9.25 in an attempt to put her in the top 10 in the country, but failed on all three tries.

Cowboys' triple jumper John Lemke leapt past 50-feet for the first time this season with a PR mark of 50-10.25 to place first in the event. Sprinter Tyler Smith clocked his fastest time of the season in the 60-meters with a time of 6.88 for a fourth place finish and came just .01 seconds from a PR.

Smith also finished second in the 200-meters with a time of 22.14 for the fastest 200 mark on the season by a Cowboy.

Hiram Morales finished fourth in the shot put with an indoor PR of 53-3 and Miguel Barrera-Lopez, running in his first event of the season, placed second in the mile run with a time of 4:18.76.

In addition to Casper's highlight, other Cowgirls who shined on the day included Tijana Antic who placed first in the triple jump with a PR mark of 39-3.75. Ashley Johnson jumped a PR of 17-7.5 for a sixth place finish in the long jump.

Shannon McLellan finished second in the mile run with a time of 5:21.67 for the third fastest mile of the season by a Cowgirl runner and Imogen Hull ran the fastest time on the season in the 3,000-meters with a time of 10:48.88.

About 1,000 miles north in South Bend, Indiana, a handful of Cowboys and Cowgirls opened up action at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational.

Nathan Jones finished second in the 5,000-meters with a personal record time of 14:21.84 which was just 13 seconds off a school record, and in the women's 5,000m, Katja Woelfl clocked an 18:06.11.

On Saturday, Oliver James and Christoper Graf will compete in the 3,000-meter; Damian O'Boyle will participate in the mile run; and Olandis Johnson, a week removed from a school record time in the 800 meters, will run in that event.
