LAKE CHARLES— McNeese softball split its games on Day 2 of the Cowgirl Classic II Saturday with a win 5-4 win over Stephen F. Austin and an 8-2 loss to Ole Miss.
 
In a back and forth game against SFA, freshman 
Brooke Otto decided the game when the rookie from Smithville, Texas hit her first collegiate home run over the left centerfield wall to give McNeese the 5-4 lead and the eventual win.
 
McNeese (10-4) picked up 13 hits in the game with Otto going 3 for 3 with one RBI and scored two runs.  
Ashley Vallejo improved to 2-3 on the year, picking up the win in relief.  Vallejo threw three shutout innings with two strikeouts and one walk.
 
Against Ole Miss, the Rebels jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added one more run in the second and third innings for a 5-2 lead.  McNeese scored its runs with a run in the first and one in the second.  The Rebels put the game out of reach with three more runs in the seventh for the 8-2 win.
 
McNeese was held to four hits including extra base hits by 
Crislyne Moreno and 
Emily Phillips.
 
Ole Miss (7-5) picked up nine hits including two home runs and two doubles in the game.
 
The tournament will conclude Sunday with Stephen F. Austin and Ole Miss at 10:30 a.m. followed by McNeese and Ole Miss at 12:30 p.m.
