SB: Vallejo Tosses One-Hitter In Shutout Win Over Grambling

LAKE CHARLES— Ashley Vallejo tossed a one-hitter and McNeese softball wasted little time in its 8-0 (5 inning) win over Grambling (9-7) Wednesday night to improve to 11-5 overall.
 
McNeese took a 3-0 lead in the first inning with two of the three runs scoring off a Grambling error.  Jada Muñoz scored the third run of the inning when Grambling attempted to throw Alayis Seneca out at second base, the attempt failed and Muñoz scored.
 
The Cowgirls added three more runs on three hits in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 6-0.  Seneca led the inning off with an infield single then Mariana Torres homered over the left centerfield wall, her first homerun as a Cowgirl for a 5-0 lead.  Erin Ardoin, who singled up the middle put McNeese up 6-0 when she came home on a sacrifice fly by Chloe Gomez.
 
A pinch hit double by Kaylee Lopez scored Muñoz and pinch runner Crislyne Moreno to end the game.
 
Ashley Vallejo picked up the complete game win to improve to 3-4 on the season.  Vallejo was outstanding in the circle, allowing one hit with eight strikeouts, striking out six of the first 10 batters she faced to go along with three walks.
 
McNeese will head to Austin, Texas this weekend to take part in the Longhorn Invitational.  The Cowgirls will face Princeton at 9 a.m. and (RV/#24) UL-Lafayette at 2 p.m. Friday.  On Saturday, McNeese will face Tennessee State at 9:30 a.m. and (#9/11) Texas at 12 p.m.     
 
 
NOTES
• Its' the third run-rule win for McNeese this season
• The homerun by Mariana Torres in the 4th inning is her first as a Cowgirl
Chloe Gomez's 10-game hitting streak came to an end. Gomez was 0-2 tonight
• The double by Kaylee Lopez to end the game is her first of the season
Ashley Vallejo threw a one-hitter and struck out eight batters, one shy of tying her career high
