Phillip Mitchell Jr.

Phillip “PJ” Mitchell Jr. was named Assistant Athletic Director of Creative Media at McNeese in July 2023, continuing his rapid rise through the department since first joining as a marketing intern in 2019. He earned promotions to Coordinator of Digital Media and Graphic Design in 2021 and Director of Creative Media in 2022 before assuming his current leadership role.

Mitchell leads all creative media efforts for McNeese Athletics, serving as the department’s primary videographer and graphic designer. He oversees graphic design, creative video production, and social media for football and men's basketball, playing a key role in branding and fan engagement.

A native of DeQuincy, Louisiana, Mitchell earned an Associate of Graphic Art degree from SOWELA Technical Community College, where he served as Vice President (2018) and President (2019) of the Graphic Art Club. He later completed his Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from McNeese State University in Spring 2024.

Among his standout creative projects are McNeese Baseball Pit Crew, which garnered 1.5 million views on X (Formally Twitter) and Dreams & Nightmares, a viral video for the men’s basketball team that reached 1.2 million views on TikTok. He also produced the widely viewed "In and Out Team Walk Out" video featuring viral student manager Amir Khan which has 3.6 million views on X and over 4 million views across platforms.

Mitchell comes from a proud family of McNeese graduates, including his mother Denisia Wood, grandfather Eric Wood, grandmother Ada Wood, and aunt Ta’Nisha Clark. He currently resides in Lake Charles with his wife, Tamia Mitchell.
